Hello Blog Readers!
Recently, we had the opportunity to do something nice.
Abbeyfield Braintree Bocking and Felsted is a charitable housing organisation for elderly people, which has existed for nearly 50 years now. The organisation prioritises assisted living accommodation, which means that elderly people from the Braintree area can receive 24 hour care, without losing their independence. At Abbeyfield, residents live in their own flats, have their own front door and are responsible for what goes on behind the doors. At the same time, they are amongst people in a similar situation, and an environment which provides care, suited to the residents' individual needs.
We had the opportunity to help Abbeyfield by creating a series of videos which will promote assisted living accommodation, inform the public about the charity and how people can help.
When I arrived at Abbeyfield on first day of shooting, I was greeted by the pleasant, welcoming atmosphere.
Filming at the location was easy. The enthusiastic residents and staff were more than happy to be interviewed on camera, and there was lots going on; preparation of lunches provided for the residents (and enjoyed in the communal area), weekly cleaning of the flats, as well as the different events and activities organised by the staff. But not everything was perfect.
After getting back to the studio, I realised that during one of the interviews, the microphone malfunctioned and did not record any sound. Luckily, the lovely Mark, family member of one of the residents, was so kind that he agreed to come in a week later so we could film the interview again.
This also gave me the opportunity to interview Roy, chairman of Abbeyfield and test out a new toy! A Rode, smartLav+ microphone, which works wonders, and uploads audio to your dropbox!
After sending off the final video, I was pleased to hear that the staff and residents at Abbeyfield really enjoyed the videos. I wish Abbeyfield the best for the future and hope to be able to help the organisation again.
Here is a short video we created for Abbeyfield:
